Common questions
What are the quiet hours?
Section 4.3 restricts amplified sound heard at a point of reception from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. daily. Construction and power equipment follow different schedules, so these are not universal quiet hours.
Section 4.3Is daytime noise unrestricted?
No. Sections 3.1–3.3 address disturbing noise, use of property and animal noise without limiting the general restrictions to nighttime. The bylaw also includes sound-level limits.
Sections 3.1–3.3When can construction take place?
Section 4.5 restricts construction noise before 7 a.m. and after 8 p.m. on days other than Sundays and general holidays. On Sundays and general holidays the restrictions are before 9 a.m. and after 6 p.m. Special exemptions may apply.
Section 4.5 · Sections 5–6What about lawn and garden equipment?
Power equipment follows the same daily hours as construction under section 4.6. Equipment definitions, sound-level/duration limits and conditional maintenance exemptions should also be considered.
Sections 4.4(c) and 4.6 · Sections 5–6What exceptions apply?
Sections 5–6 include specified emergency vehicles, public or utility maintenance, golf-course mowing, residential maintenance during stated hours, public transport and approved events. Special exemption permits have application and notice requirements.
Sections 5–6What penalties are specified?
Section 10.5 specifies a maximum of $10,000 on summary conviction and treats each continuing day as a separate offence. Section 10.1 separately refers to the municipal-ticket bylaw; current ticket amounts have not been verified here.
Sections 10.1 and 10.5How do I report a noise concern?
The Town's bylaw enforcement page directs concerns and questions to its Public Inquiry Form and explains its complaint procedure. Use that page for current instructions.
