Bathurst's captured noise bylaw restricts disturbing music and loud property noise from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. Construction equipment and specified building work have earlier restrictions from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. Other listed activities can be restricted at any time.

Is daytime noise unrestricted?

No. Section 2 lists activities restricted at any time when likely to cause a nuisance or disturb the peace, including unnecessary engine idling/revving and inadequately muffled equipment. Other activity-specific restrictions also apply.

When can construction take place?

Section 2(f) restricts construction equipment from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. Section 2(j) addresses listed building and mechanical excavation work during those hours without written City Engineer permission. The section's nuisance/disturbance condition also matters.

Section 2(e)'s French text restricts domestic outdoor power tools from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., excluding domestic snowblowers. The English extraction omits the morning hour; consult the bilingual source to resolve wording before relying on it.

Section 5 includes essential or emergency City work, authorized recreational activities, traditional/festive/religious activities, approved community activities, and emergency vehicles or equipment.

The captured section 6, amended in 2012, describes a category C offence with a $70–$500 range under provincial procedure legislation. Current legislation, amendments and enforcement amounts have not been checked.
