## TOWN OF BRIDGEWATER CONFERENCES, WORKSHOPS AND SEMINARS

Council recognizes that it is advisable and in the best interest of all parcles to support the pursuit of excellence, and in order to encourage Councillors to become better acquainted with issues related to municipal government, agrees to provide opportunities for Councillors to participate in appropriate and approved conferences, workshops, seminars, etc.
Council agrees to provide 100% funding for such purposes, subject to the budget restrictions that are from time to time approved by Council. Funding
will be provided subject to the following guidelines:
1. Each year Council will allot a specific budgeted amount for expendi-
2. tures on conferences, workshops and seminars for Councillors.
2. Within this budgeted amount, an amount will be set aside for each Councillor for the purpose of attending specialized workshops or seminars
4. and conferences which may be approved by the Mayor or Council.
3. Where financial resources permit:
- b) once during each term of Council funding will be provided for the opportunity to attend the Federation of Canadian Municipalities
7. Conference at least once during each three year term.
4. Where an amount has been approved by Council for each Councillor for discretionary expenditures for municipal related conferences, and seminars
9. . Approval for attendance at additional conferences. shops may be approved from time to time by Council as a supplementary
10. expenditure where,
- a) the funds allocated for such purposes by Council have been fully
12. utilized.
13. ) Council did not have foreknowledge that such a conference, workshop or seminar would be offered before other funds were expended as set aside for each Councillor
14. ") Where Council feels it is in the public interest to direct one of its members to attend.
- b. Council, where financial resources will allow, will schedule one annual retreat for planning purposes with such retreat taking place at a facility outside of the normal work environment.
