## TOWN OF BRIDGEWATER APPOINTMENTS TO BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS Policy No. 12A Approval Date: November 13, 1990 Resolution No.90-402 1. It is a policy of Council\_that appointments to the Boards, Committees and Commissions of the Town shall recognize the primary responsibility of Council to the taxpayers of the Town of Bridgewater and their right to representation by their peers wherever possible and in the best interest of the community. Accordingly, appointments to Boards, Committees and Commissions shall be made on the basis of preference being given to town taxpayers where they are qualified for such appointments, and only in cases where there were insufficient qualified town residents willing to serve, shall the appointments normally be made to nonresidents to the Town's Boards, Committees and Commissions, etc. 2. Council may, however, in special circumstances where it deems it in the community's best interests appoint non-residents because of their specialized skills, knowledge or backgrounds.
