LOCAL RULES, WITH SOURCES
Inverness noise rules
Municipality of the County of Inverness, Nova Scotia.
In Inverness County, the captured noise bylaw uses licensing restrictions for amplified sound audible on a street or in another dwelling. It does not establish a general nightly quiet-hours schedule. A licence can specify times and other conditions; it is not blanket permission to make noise until 1 a.m.
Hours depend on the activity
| Activity | Restriction in the source | Where it applies / conditions |
|---|---|---|
| Amplified music / public address | Licence required in the circumstances described | Sound capable of being heard on a street or in another dwelling; licence hours and exemptions matter. Section 3(1)–(5) |
| Unnecessary vehicle noise | No time limit specified in section 5 | Noise disturbing the neighbourhood or heard inside a dwelling or business. Section 5 |
Common questions
What are the quiet hours?
A general nightly quiet-hours range is not established in the captured bylaw. Section 3 instead requires a licence for covered amplified sound audible on a street or in another dwelling. The Clerk may license operation between 9 a.m. and 1 a.m. the next day and impose additional restrictions.
Section 3(1)–(5)Is daytime noise unrestricted?
Daytime is not automatically unrestricted. The amplified-sound licensing provisions apply, and section 5 addresses unnecessary vehicle noise without specifying a time window.
