S MUNICIPALITY OF THE COUNTY OF INVERNESS COUNCIL POLICY STREET LIGHTS LEGISLATIVE AUTHORITY: Municipal Government Act Section 65(n) PREAMBLE: This Policy shall apply to the Municipality of the County of Inverness and all its residents. TERMS: The Municipality of the County of Inverness is committed to providing street lighting to its residents when, in a particular area or community, a request is submitted to the designated municipal official for such service. It shall be the policy of the Municipality that funding for street lights shall be allocated from the general revenues in accordance with the budgetary resources of the Municipality. Street lights may be installed in accordance with the following criteria: Lights may be installed on unlisted roads. Lights must be installed only on poles within the right-of-way of the road. Lights cannot be installed any closer than every second pole. 'Where there is a request for street lighting, it is recommended that a series of lights be installed to adequately light the area, there must be one house for each pole in the area to be lit and there must be at least a series of three lights. Notwithstanding the provisions of Section 4, one street light may be installed if it benefits three premises. The Municipality recognizes that from time to time, circumstances may exist which warrant consideration of an exception to the above policy. In these instances, a Municipal Councillor may authorize the Director of Public Works to install a street light in an area due to special circumstances. The request for street lights for special circumstances shall be a maximum of three lights per municipal district per annum.
