Region of Queens Municipality Administrative Policy 5 - Respecting AN AREA RATE ON FIRE PROTECTION SERVICED BY A WATER SYSTEM WHEREAS the Municipal Government Act provides that Council may levy a rate on the value of all assessable property and business occupancy assessment in the area served by a water system in the municipality in order to recover that part of the cost of the water system that is attributable to fire protection; AND WHEREAS all properties in the area served by a water system benefit from having this fire protection service; AND WHEREAS no property, except property of Her Majesty in right of the Province, in the area served by the water system as defined by policy is exempt from the rate; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Council of the Region of Queens Municipality approve a levy that shall be a fire protection rate upon the value of all assessable property and business occupancy assessment that is connected to or has the ability to be connected to a public water system in the area served by any water supply and distribution system; AND FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED THAT the fire protection rate shall be determined annually at the time the tax rate is approved.
