Policy Number: 2007 - 23 Policy Subject: ## Policy Objective This Policy provides direction for seeking the opinions, of the public concerning planning documents of the Town. Section 204 of the Municipal Government Act, SNS, Chapter 18, requires Council to "... adopt a public participation program concerning the preparation of planning documents." This shall also apply to any amendments Council may consider following the adoption of planning documents. ## Policy 1. During the preparation of an original and the general review of an existing Municipal Planning Strategy and Land Use By-Law, the Planning Advisory Committee shall hold a minimum of one public meeting to provide residents an opportunity to express their opinion(s) with respect to the development. 2. Any amendments proposed to an existing Municipal Planning Strategy, with of without implementing amendments to the Land Use By-law, the Planning Advisory Committee shall hold a minimum of one public meeting to solicit opinions on the proposed amendments). 3. Any such public meeting shall be advertised at least once in a local newspaper and the advertisement shall briefly describe the undertaking or proposed amendments), the time, date and place of the meeting, as well as a source for obtaining background or additional information. Advertisements shall be published at least three days in advance of such public meetings. In addition to advertising in a local paper, the advertisement shall be posed in the Town Office and two other locations throughout Town. 4. Subject to the above minimums and subject to any direction from Council, the Planning Advisory Committee shall determine if additional public participation meetings, on a particular issue / amendment, are required, and this also including extra advertising. ## Public Participation Program <!-- image --> ## Annotation for Official Policy Book Date of Notice to Council Members of Intent to consider: January 11, 2007 Date of Passage of Current Policy: January 25 200Z I certly that this was adopted by Council as indicated above.
