Policy: Coverage: Council Approval: Effective Date: Chapter 30 Town of Trenton 03/10/09 M 03 / 10/09 M ## Scope This policy will apply to fire hydrant usage within the Town of Trenton and is adopted under authority of Section 49 (1) (c) (iii) and 49 (2) of the Municipal Government Act. ## Policy Direct Use from Town Hydrants (non-vehicle/unmetered): The use of water directly from non-designated fire hydrants, for non-Fire Department applications, is not permitted. The following usage is prohibited: landscaping-related work, filling of swimming pools, flushing, soaking, etc. ## Fire Hydrant Use for Non-firefighting: Whenever the use of a designated fire hydrant is desired for any purpose, except those of the Trenton Fire Department, the Town may grant a permit containing specific terms and conditions as it deems necessary, for a "Designated Fire Hydrant Permit" (attached). The permit is nontransferrable; applies to a single specific use or application. The granting of the permit is at the discretion of the Town Engineer/Director of Public Works or his designate. ## Designated Fire Hydrant Permit Procedures: 1. Blank permit applications can be obtained from the Town Office during regular business hours. 2. The applicant will complete the permit application and submit it to the Town Office a minimum of 24 hours prior to the desired time of work. 4. The Town will approve/deny application prior to requested work start time. 3. The permit fee to be submitted with the completed application. 5. The approved permit will be returned to the applicant contact, as listed on the application, prior to the commencement of any work. 7. A Town Public Works Department employee or an individual approved by the Town Engineer/Director of Public Works will operate the hydrant. 6. Work will be in strict accordance with specifications in the approved permit. 8. If a permit is denied, the applicant can appeal the decision, in writing, within 24 hours of the denial, to Town Council. ## FIRE HYDRANT USAGE POLICY ## Designated Fire Hydrant Permit Fee Schedule: - Fire Hydrant Permit Fee (already metered): $50.00 per single specific use.
