Town of Trenton POLICY NO. OTH-20220111 APPROVED: 2022-01-11 PAGE 1 OF 2 DOG CONTROL POLICY Scope The purpose of this policy is to provide full support of the Town of Trenton's Dog Control By-law No. 20 respecting the control and regulation of dogs. Policy 1. This policy will establish fees when seizing and impounding dogs within the Town of Trenton. This policy in partnership with the Town of Trenton's By-law No.20 - Dog Control provides structure and guidance for the Dog Control Officer, who is employed by contract. 2. All definitions in the Town of Trenton's By-law No.20 - Dog Control apply to this policy. Fees 3.1. One-time Registration Fee $20.00 3.2. Dog Tag Replacement Fee $10.00 3.3. Daily Pound Fees $40.00 3.4. Release Fee for Impounded Dog a) First Offence $50.00 b) Second Offense of same dog or same owner $75.00 Note: multiple dogs = multiple fees. 3.5. Additional Fees for an Impounded Dog requiring special care, will depend on time dog was in Municipal Care and type of care required. This may include veterinarian care should the dog be ill or injured when entering Municipal Care. Fee will reflect the cost of associated care. Payment of Fees 4.1. The owner responsible for the dog(s) that has been impounded must first pay the Dog Control and Impoundment Fees to the Town of Trenton prior to the release of the dog(s). This payment can be made directly to the Dog Control Officer or at the Town of Trenton Administration Office at 120 Main Street, Trenton, NS. Town of Trenton POLICY NO. Upon receipt and verification of the payment of the Dog Control and Impoundment Fees, the Dog Control Officer for the Town of Trenton will release the dog(s). Policy Review 5. This policy is to be reviewed once each calendar year, unless deemed otherwise by Town Council.
