Town of Truro A Bylaw to Amend the Sewer Use Bylaw 1. The Sewer Use By-Law is amended as set out in this By-law, effective June 13, 2016. 2. The following is added immediately after s. 3.58: 3.58A "Sewer service charge" means the charge described in Part 21 of this By-law for the construction and maintenance of the sewerage system of the Town. 3. The following is added immediately after s. 20.4: PART 21: Sewer Charges 21.1 Every owner of property on which any building is connected to a sewerage system shall pay to the Town an annual sewer service charge for the construction and maintenance of the sewerage system of the Town. 21.2 a) The sewer service charge for each property shall be based on the amount of water from the Town's Water Utility consumed on the property. b) For the period from July 1, 2016 to March 31, 2017, the sewer service charge for a property shall be calculated each quarter of the year as follows: i) $0.63 per cubic metre of water consumed up to and including 1250 cubic metres consumed in that quarter; and ii) $0.05 per cubic metre of water consumed over 1250 cubic metres consumed in that quarter. c) For the fiscal year commencing April 1, 2017 and subsequent fiscal years, the sewer service charge shall be set by resolution of Council. 21.3 a) The sewer service charge shall be billed quarterly and shall be due and payable 30 days after billing. b) The sewer service charge, if not paid by the due date, shall bear interest at the same rate as charged on unpaid taxes. 21.4 The sewer service charge is a first lien on the property subject to the sewer service charge and may be collected in the same manner as taxes, and at the same time and in the same proceedings as taxes.
