WEST HANTS REGIONAL MUNICIPALITY REGIONAL HIGH SCHOOL BURSARY /GRANT POLICY RCOFN-013.00 West Hants 1. INTRODUCTION The West Hants Regional Municipality recognizes the pursuit of further education and training is important. The creation of this policy ensures that resources are allocated equally throughout the Region to support and encourage all graduating students who reside within the West Hants Regional Municipality, an opportunity to pursue post secondary education while reducing financial barriers. 2. PURPOSE To provide financial assistance in a fair manner to graduating students who reside within the West Hants Regional Municipality as it relates to costs associated with post secondary education. *Note: Confirmation of Enrolment to the student's chosen field of study, trade or program is required.* 3. AUTHORITY 3.1 Nova Scotia Municipal Government Act - Sections 65 and 65 C, Adoption of Budgets, and Grant Disclosure. 4. SCOPE This Policy is applicable to all graduating students who reside within the West Hants Regional Municipality. 5. PROCEDURES 5.1 6. AWARDS The West Hants Regional Municipality will provide an annual bursary for up to four (4) eligible applicants as per the schedule below: 5.1.1 The total amount dispersed annually from this Student Bursary Reserve will be $4,000. Eligible graduating students who reside within West Hants will receive up to $1,000 each. 5.1.2 Bursaries will be dispersed according to the criteria outlined in each bursary. 5.1.3 Successful recipients will be selected from each school based on the criteria outlined within each bursary. 6.1 The Dr. Garth Vaughan Memorial Bursary - $1,000. The Fred Fox Memorial Bursary - $1,000. The Inspire West Hants Bursary - $1,000. 7. APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS 7.1 Dr. Garth Vaughan Memorial Bursary The applicant must: a) Be a graduating student from Avon View High School. b) Be enrolled in a Post Secondary Institute. RCOFN-013.00 c) The Bursary cheque will be made payable to both the stud·ent and the Post Secondary Institution for January 31, the start of the second term of post­ secondary. 7.2 Jeanne Bourque Carpe Diem Memorial Bursary The applicant must: a) Be a graduating student from Horton High School. b) Entering an Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) Program, who has been an active volunteer in their school and/or home community, with first consideration given to students entering an Energy Program or Engineering and Applied Sciences or Natural Resources and Environment Programs. c) The Bursary cheque will be made payable to both the student and the Post Secondary Institution for January 31, the start of their second term of post­ secondary. 7.3 Fred Fox Memorial Bursary The applicant must: a) Be a graduating student from Avon View High School. b) Be a graduating student pursuing a career in the trades industry. c) Bursary cheque be made payable to both the student and the Post Secondary Institution for January 31, the start of their second term of post-secondary. 7.4 The Inspire West Hants Bursary The applicant must: a) Be a graduating student from the Windor Adult High School or the West Hants Adult High School-;- West Hants Regional Municipality Page 2 of 4 West Hants Regional Municipality High School Bursary/Grants Policy RCOFN-013.00 West Hants WEST HANTS REGIONAL MUNICIPALITY REGIONAL HIGH SCHOOL BURSARY /GRANT POLICY RCOFN-013.00 Description: Second Amendement that distinguished the Fred Fox and the Dr. Garth Vaughan Memorial Bursaries be distributed to students attending Avon View High School, the Jeanne Bourque Carpe Diem Memorial Bursary be distributed to a student attending Horton High School and the Inspire West Hants Bursary be distributed to a student attending the Windsor or West Hants Adult High School.
