Call before you start!** Err on the side of caution and contact the building department to make sure you have the necessary building or demolition permits and that your project meets Ontario Building Code standards. The Building Department is responsible for ensuring that all construction in the Municipality meets the required standards outlined in the Ontario Building Code, the Municipality's zoning by-laws and other applicable laws and regulations. The building permit process ensures these requirements are met to protect the interests of homeowners, developers and the community. A building permit is a license granting legal permission to begin construction of any new structure, addition or renovation. ## Cloudpermit **ALL BUILDING PERMITS CAN NOW BE APPLIED FOR ONLINE THROUGH OUR ONLINE BUILDING PERMIT SOFTWARE CLOUDPERMIT.** **Create an Account:** * Go to the Cloudpermit site. * Click "Create Now" * Type in your email address. * Cloudpermit will send a verification email to the account provided. * Open the email and complete the registration process. Note: the email link is valid for 24 hours. Next time you visit the Cloudpermit, click "Log in Now" and enter your email address and password. **Apply for a Permit:** Go to the Cloudpermit site and log in. * Click the "Create A New Application" button in the upper right-hand corner. * Create a New Project. Please use your address as the project name. Then select NEXT. * Provide the Location where the work will be taking place. * Select the correct municipality drop-down menu.Type in your address, street or roll number, OR locate the property on the map. Once you have the correct location (it appears under the map), select NEXT. * Select the Application Type and Category appropriate for your project. Then select NEXT. * At this point, you'll see a Summary. Check if the information is accurate. To make changes, use the "Back" button. If everything is correct, select "Finish and Create" Follow the instructions on the Cloudpermit site by adding the required parties to the application and uploading the required forms and drawings. Once this is complete select "Submit Application". For additional details on using Cloudpermit as an applicant or a building professional, please see Cloudpermit's User Guide. **Permit Review Process** Applications are processed as quickly as possible, depending on the complexity and completeness of the applicant's drawings and information and if referral to other departments is required. Changes must be approved before a permit can be issued in the case of a zoning change, minor variance, or if building plans must be altered. Upon approval, construction must proceed as stated in the review process. Inspections are conducted by the Building Inspector at each major phase of construction and ensure the project is carried out according to the Building Code, the Building Permit and the approved building plans. Each inspection must be requested with 24 hours' notice given to the Building Inspector. If the work does not conform to approved plans or the building code, the owner will be notified. If a violation is deemed serious enough, the Building Inspector may post a stop-work order until the issue is fixed.
