Permits are not required for the following:
Line fences
Landscaping
Eavestroughs
Painting
Demolition of a detached accessory building under 15 sq m (161 sq ft)
Air conditioning units
Drywall and interior renovations that do not change the structural integrity of the building
Accessory structures under 15 sq m (161 sq ft) that do not hold a living quarter
Replacement of windows/doors with no structural change
Roofing (shingles/metal roof), provided that new materials are the same as those being
replaced.
Non-structural board replacements to existing decks
Exemptions:
Buildings and/or structures or any part thereof that are exempt from assessment by virtue
of paragraphs 3, 9, 10, and 19 of Section 3 of The Assessment Act, R.S.O. 1970, as
amended, are exempt from permit fees. All other aspects of municipal, provincial, and all
other codes, regulations, and by-laws must be adhered to in their entirety.
Refunds:
50% of a permit fee may be refunded, at the discretion of the Chief Building Official, if:
- a building permit has been issued,
- applicable fees have been paid, and
- the project has not commenced.
